A Story about Strawberries

This time of year, the vivid color of strawberries brighten different advertisement posters.

However, now you can grow strawberries in greenhouses, and so you can eat ripe strawberries throughout the year. In Japan, strawberry picking is a popular activity.

In recent years, tourists from around the world come to Japan to pick strawberries.

A few years back, you could pick strawberry almost anywhere, and besides bus tours strawberry picking was not so much a booming tourist attraction.

Strawberry picking has gained attention as a result of foreign tourists wanting to experience the not-so-popular activity.

Japan has a variety of beautiful red strawberries. However, in most countries, there are not so many types of strawberries, nonetheless all the same size, displayed neatly in boxes, and sweet.

A tourist shared Japanese strawberries via SNS, and it soon spread. The number of tourists wanting to eat Japanese strawberries soon multiplied, which increased the demand for strawberry tours.

There are approximately 250 types of strawberries, 90% of which are developed in Japan.

 Tochiotome,” “Amaou,” “Benihoppe,” “Hitoshizuku,” “Toyonoka”…

These are a few of the countless types of strawberries.

Moreover, Japan is 7th in strawberry production rate, but has the highest consumption rate in the world.

During March and April, when strawberries are most delicious, strawberry fares in convenience stores and restaurants commence.

I myself am very tempted when I see the cute and bright colors of strawberries, maybe because most Japanese people cannot resist temptation when it comes to strawberries.
